Updated February 2012 — Hours after I posted their January 2012 offer, they went offline and replaced with a parked page. DODGY!
n00b providers Monday! Here are some new low end providers that I’ve spotted over the week, but be warned — some of them might be the next SoftLayer (hmm, what’s the probability of this?), but many might fail and fall into the dead pool in the not so distant future. So evaluate, and be careful what you are about to purchase.
Here is the WHT offer. ThriftyVPS claimed to be “a new company of hard working individuals looking to break the hosting mold”. They have both OpenVZ and Xen VPS hosting plans, and both of them have packages starting below $7/month. “Xen powered vps 1” is $6.25/month that comes with
- 256MB memory/512MB swap
- 10GB storage
- 250GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps
- Xen/SolusVM
Offering PayPal, AlertPay and Google Checkout. They also claimed that their Xen VPS is available in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Romania, although their Network Test page did not include Romania’s test IP address. Very new provider indeed — domain has only been registered for 2 months. Free StartSSL certificate for their ordering pages. WHMCS licensedebug shows failed validation, which is a bit of worry.

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
StartSSL is going to break their chops over that one!
Francisco
I was under the impression that StartSSL free certs a fine for commercial use, and as far as they are concerned you only need the paid products if you need the extra features of them.
After rereading the faq it states “Organizations should perform Class 2 validation and an organization name may only appear in a digital certificate at Class 2 level and higher”
Why do you keep listing resellers?
They get their vps from budgetvm – http://www.budgetvm.com/virtual-server-pricing.php.
Regards,
Reseller spotter ;p
LEBIA, good job :P
Thanks. Despite BudgetVM has been an advertiser here (yeah, look to the right!) I have never listed their plans. Maybe I should :)
Agreed. I have an Enzu (aka BudgetVM) Xen VPS in Romania (Cluj-Napoca) and it is fine (uptime last 40 days 99,9%).
With check over http://www.whmcs.com/members/verifydomain.php, domain “thriftyvps.com” are licensed. From “direct” I guess CloudFlare should be blamed :P
That’s because you need CloudFlare Pro to setup SSL. They could atleast add A record such as clients, whmcs, billing or my instead of direct. Also WHMCS license should be reissued and set to correct URL.
Thanks for the listing and the input. I fixed the WHMCS licence issue. Also installed in new Comodo ssl Certificate and I am curently working on the EV SSL Certificate.

Free servers anyone?
Nice catch :P
Fixed the free issue.
Do I still get my free server, Sir?
It was a mistake, but I cant say I blame you for trying.
If you managed to signup and got server details emailed to you then legally they’ll have to provide you with it for free. (This is how it works in the UK anyway.)
It happens, kind of like sears ad for an ipad2 for $69 instead of $600
What’s the affiliation (if any) with Evorack…
http://viewdns.info/reverseip/?host=thriftyvps.com
We are not connected with evorack, we both use cloudflare.
The live support button is irratating how it follows you up and down the page like that.
May I ask what browser you are using? in IE9 it stays on the top, but in compatibility mode it follows in the right hand margin
FireFox.
GREAT! I bought 2 xen vps the other day located in Dallas and I am very happy with my purchase.
