LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

HostD8 - $5 512MB OpenVZ VPS

HostD8 Via this WHT offer. HostD8 is doing a special package for the WHT users. $5/month with “limited quantity”. Use this sign up link to get it.

  • 512MB memory
  • 50GB storage
  • 100GB/month data transfer on 10Mbps
  • OpenVZ/VirtPanel

Location of their servers is not really specified on their website nor their WHT ad copies. However their website and their VirtPanel are located in Chicago, belong to IP range of HostQuack/859Compute/UuberHost, which HostD8 claimed has acquired. So I presume the servers would be there as well. Although it’s still a mystery that WHOIS records for HostQuack/UuberHost still aren’t changed, and WHMCS licensee at HostD8 is still “Computer Solutions” which is 859Compute.

Domain registered in Feb 2011. Yes it’s a new business, associating with some failed companies through supposedly acquisition. Not the kind of provider that I’ll give my money to, but YMMV.

  1. Another host with its main site on shared hosting?

There are 182 domains hosted on this server.

Some interesting domains out of this total include:
    adultwebsitesolutions.com
    hostquack.net
    porntraffic.net
    uuberhost.com

    http://viewdns.info/reverseip/?host=hostd8.com

Seems they are associated with a few interesting sites!?

    • Then, there is a need of a dedicated server to host my hosting company website? Because we discused already about putting the site out of the network. Then, a dedicated is the solution? I don’t think so.

      • But surely they can afford a low end VPS for their own website, can’t they? :) Otherwise they’ll all know that you are not only running some small fry VPS company, but also working on some adult site traffic generator on the side :)

      • Definately no need for a dedicated server, but surely a low end VPS would do? Even if only for peace of mind that their customer database doesn’t reside on the same machine as other sites. What if a vulnerability in one of those sites allows an attacker access to their database?

  3. The Kreek:

Actually its not a server, its a VPS they are using with CPanel. Im a current customer on their shared plan, they seem to stable finally after so many migrations.

In the shared plan I originally was with TinyShared (TinyVPS subsidiary) great service; then they transfer the biz to 859Compute, it was chaotic, and it appears they acquire the biz from 859Compute.

On WHT they have assured they are a different entity from 859Compute, as far as a shared account, its been ok, i been using it only for testing stuff.

If any body gets an VPS, please tell us your opinion.

  4. Actually When you hit The website you would notice that it forwards to another domain Billing.hostd8.com/portal

this is where the site resides and is on a separate vps of its own we have done this so we can have billing and website on separate VPS plus with redundant vps running the site and billing we have been able to stabilize all the issues the previous companies had owned. Yes we still have the old domain names with untouched who-is. we keep these mainly for traffic.! all shared hosting is on their own separate redundant vps’s also. as far as the domains listed above of the adult content is not ours but one of our customers.

we have release a budget line of vps if any one is willing to give it a shot and we have $1 and $5 to try out they are on our VPS page.

Just a side note we no longer offer shared hosting but will continue to host the shared clients as long as they are there! Also the servers are located in our suite at 1102 grand in Kansas City, MO we have dual electric grid generators and full battery back up. Currently our Upstream Provider of Internet is Hurricane Electric and we have been in talks with Level3 and a couple others so we can be multi-homed. We need this for redundant internet for the dedicated servers that we also offer.

If any one has any questions or needs to talk about anything they are more then welcome to email the sales Staff at sales{at}hostd8.com

What do you mean by “continue to host the shared clients”? Ever since you bought out tinyshared, you took the entire server offline and it hasn’t been up since. You close all my tickets, provide immature responses (at least for the time I was able to contact you), claiming that the server was infected with a virus or something.

I just hope you don’t do this to your VPS customers :|

The VPS speeds are amazing, one downside is the control panel! But it does the job either way!

I would totally use these guys for all my servers.

  7. john:

Yes, agree, the virtulizor just goes off without any reason, in order to boot up, you have to re-install os, then it comes back. Ticket answers, takes about 48 hours for a rude one liner.
    I don’t recommend this.

could you please let us know why our hosting is a joke you can email us about it thank you. we are always looking for ways to improve.

    @john
I know we have just been installing virtualizor for our budget customers but don’t recall you sending in a ticket also we have had longer then usual support ticket times over the last week due to the $1 vps we offered but personally have not seen a ticket go over 4 hours if you could let me know the number so i can look into this i would be very thankful.

don’t bother. Just fix your damn virtualizer.

  9. I wanted to quickly step in here and clear something up. The Virtualizor has been functioning properly for a bit now… we were doing a few things at first to stabilize the new setup for our budget line, however, that has all been taken care of. As far as the re-installation of the os is concerned… i just now tested that theory… and it absolutely does not perform that way. It does however take some time to reboot… maybe 3 min ?
you will get a browser dialog box that tells you that the vps ha been rebooted…. do not browse away until you get that message. I would venture to guess you assumed it was not going to work and reloaded your os… plus you also can ssh into the vps and issue the reboot command… I will be honest with you.
IMHO using the ‘control panel’ for much else other than reloading the operating system or changing a hostname…really serves no purpose for me… its a crutch and to me a waste of time…. takes longer to login to the control panel and screw around with all the graphical fanciness than to ssh in and type reboot …. easy … no biggie..

just my 2 cents… and also needed to at least defend…. as Virtualizor works fine and the reboot works great too. reboot has always worked.. and the stability issues have been solved…. bottom line is… its very good service and being improved everyday.

  13. John I have personally answered your ticket twice now your VPS has been down for 24 hours but you have not answered any of the questions that we ask trying to find out what ha happened to it. You are a touch correct through this VPS was purchased at $1 a month and with that on the site it said absolutely no support. I you need more assistance other then password change on your virtulizor account then I recommend a premium VPS starting at 19 a month that is fully supported

  14. We have also now added this same package as a KVM VPS for only $5 a month

    July 11, 2011 @ 1:20 pm | Reply
    • Dino Suarez:

I see you also have a 1$ Budget KVM VPS with ipv6 only. Can you provide more details on the ipv6
      such as a test IP?
Is it native ipv6 or from a tunnel and who are the ipv6 network providers.

      Thanks.

      July 11, 2011 @ 2:46 pm | Reply
      • Hostd8:

So as far as the test IP, We feel our price on that box is so cheap that a $1 is not unfair to test out the network. Also we have a /64 that is native and a /64 that is tunnel
both of them are from our bandwidth provider Huricane electric.

I mean IPv6 related. One address? Some range? Native? Tunnel?

          July 11, 2011 @ 4:57 pm | Reply
        • Hostd8:

for the dolar package you will get one 1 ipv6 and and it is just ranandomly picked from the pool so i could not tell you if you are getting native or tunnel. You will have to forgive my ignorance on this as the techs are to ones who know more then i do about this. I know we are adding a /48 native later today and that will heavialy outweight the tunel ips so your chances of getting a native will be much higher or we can try and have the techs add it maually to your account.

    • Hostd8:

you can add a IPV4 ip but unfortanetly even we cant get them much cheaper then $2.50 this is why we dont charge any extra on top of that and just pass our cost on to you. so it breaks even/
