LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

ChicagoVPS - $5.95 512MB Xen VPS Black Friday Offer

ChicagoVPS Okay. I have been getting quite a few “Black Friday” offers from the last 24 hours and I am expecting a few more. For those of us not in US and are not familiar with Black Friday, here is a relevant Wikipedia entry. Anyway, sales are on, and first we have Chris from ChicagoVPS sending me their Black Friday promotional offer. Two “low end” packages here:

  • VPS — Starter (Sign up link)
  • 128MB memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • $4.45/month (with promo code BLACKstarter), or
    $53.17/year (with promo code BLACKstarteryear
  • VPS — Standard (Sign up link)
  • 512MB memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • $5.95/month (with promo code BLACKstandard), or
    $60.00/year (with promo code BLACKstandardyear

Chicago servers. “Starter” does not seem much sense as it is only slightly cheaper than “Standard”.

Someone knows if is possible to get additional storage in this packages?

What about the CPU assigned for every customer?

We can add additional storage, and questions can be answered by me at chris@chicagovps.net

I’ve seen (and used) offers like this before. It just isn’t possible to offer prices like these and survive. I’ve been the victim of it before and nobody gives and damn about your data/security/business when they’re bankrupt. One day your servers will be down, your data will be gone and you’ll be raging on LEB about how you’ve been cheated. God help you if you paid yearly.

They set up in October – I’ll give them 6 months at best before they’re in the dead pool.

    November 26, 2010 @ 7:53 am
    • @Ryan,

How can you say a company cant survive? We have been in the hosting industry for a long time, just new to VPS. We own our own hardware and only pay colo fees ( and get very good deals ). I myself think its wrong to judge a company, based on false accusations when you do not know anything about it.

Also this deal only runs for 3 days, those are not prices we usually charge, usually “Black Friday” means blowout pricing, maybe you are unfamiliar with what Black friday is. I can assure you we are going no where. Come back in 6 months and I will tell you how well we are doing.

      • Ryan:

RackVM said exactly the same thing a few months back. You can search for them here to see what happened with them. You have all the same signs – very young company, ridiculously low prices, big incentives for paying a year up-front, rebuttals that seem almost too well rehearsed.

I will set a reminder in my calendar to come back in precisely 6 months and will apologise and congratulate you if you are still operating (assuming LEB is still online).

        • Sounds great,

I cant wait for the day to come :) Im sorry I was a little hostile earlier been a long night. I just dont think its fair to publicly bash a company without any knowledge of them.

However I can still understand your hesitation since we are “newer” to the VPS market, but not hosting.

  8. Michael:

How long is the setup process? I signed up a VPS with another company and it took almost 2 days. They had a bug with the Xen Debian boxes not working properly with mysql-server. I assume you would not have the same issues?

    November 26, 2010 @ 8:42 pm
  9. @Michael,

We have not had any issues and your VPS was setup minutes after the order confirmed your payment on paypal.

If you have problems with your VPS please submit a ticket to support at chicagovps dot net and we will take a look at it for you.

    November 26, 2010 @ 9:16 pm
  10. 1. If I signed up for a VPS—Standard for $5.95/month now could I change my plan to $60.00/year later?
    2. I don’t see a Debian 5 option in the OS selection box, why?

    November 27, 2010 @ 12:55 am
    • @Victor,

If you decide to change it later on, yes we will honor this for you.

If you have any more questions please email me at chris@chicagovps.net

      @Mike, thanks for the Support!

  11. I see Debian 5 right in the middle of their OS choices in the drop down box.

I’ve used ChicagoVPS for 2 months now, no problems.

  15. Paul:

Not the best for gameservers.. I’m not sure who else actually use VPS’s for hosting gameservers but I do.

Tried and still trying chicagoVPS but I get users who get disconnected from the game. Besides that, latency is good and the node doesn’t seem overloaded at all- but it seems it doesn’t like holding onto the longer connections and it’s no good for hosting a game server when anyone who’s been in there for a while gets disconnected :(

It’s weird because I’ve never seen this on any host before, it disconnects a group of players but the rest stay in game, then eventually it’ll do another group of players. When the disconnects happen I’m unable to reach the server for about 10 minutes.

Great price for a VPS though, just wish it didn’t have that problem.

  19. Are you folks out of stock on Standard? If so, will you have more available before the sale is done?

    November 28, 2010 @ 7:33 pm
    • Pear,

We are not out of stock. We have plenty of room on our new machine :)

      Thanks,

      Chris

      November 29, 2010 @ 2:13 am
  20. We have chosen not to run the x86 OS’s on our machines. We feel that the best performance on our machines would be to run the x86_64 distos of Linux.

    Thanks,

  22. @drmike

We are working on provisioning more servers already and again to keep up with demand. Hopefully should have some on later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Despite Chris saying we have plenty of room above, we have actually been very busy with orders that the machine is already full :)

Thanks LEB and LEB Readers for keeping us very busy and successful!

  23. Victor,

I am working on it currently. For some reason, it does not boot properly on our newest machines and i am trying to still find out why. The image is good and boots on our older machines (less than a month old kernel and configuration). I think it may be a baremetal kernel issue right now causing our issues as the image has been rebuilt to try and accommodate the new server and for some reason it didn’t work my first time going around. I am hoping to have our Debian 5 issue fixed ASAP as Debian is a very popular OS choice.

    Thanks,

    Jeremiah

p.s. sorry for the late reply, didn’t get the email on the notification

In my opinion chicagovps servers are best than others, already this is my 2nd month with them. Almost 100% Uptime SLA and nice support from : Jeremiah Shinkle.

I recommend them to my friends and they are providing best than virpus/ydgh/vpscolo etc. Because others are providing worst support, but the persons from chicagovps are friendly. Also they help me to get my own /30 with SWIP within 24 hours. Uptime 42 days 0.11 0.17 0.13

ChicagoVPS rocks! They keep doing best. How far they can continue thats the only thing we need to know now. As far I see their servers rank can be 100 out of 100. Best servers rather than others for sure. I hope they will be stay on the business for a long period of time.

    Chris et. al.,

Is this deal still on? I know it’s beyond Black Friday, but, I’d like to give you folks a try for a non-business-critical/dev server i’ve been wanting to setup. TIA.

    December 5, 2010 @ 11:21 pm
  30. This deal is no longer available, however there will be a new lowendbox deal soon enough. We are working on deploying a new node, and possibly other options being added in. Please check back tomorrow or Tuesday.

    Thanks,

    Chris

We have this same pricing still but on openvz servers. Our new LEB post should be posted here in the next day or 2, but if you want it now I can give you the new coupon code.
