It is a properly registered LLC in Colorado (ID=20081258904). So even though the web design might not be all that flashy, but at least it looks like a legitimate business.

Via this WHT post. urgentVPS has released their 2010 pricing and they have a special offer at €14.85/3 Months, i.e. €4.95/Month. Which at last week’s sharp change against USD, it’s roughly $7/month which meets my listing criteria. I guess I better post it just in case USD slides again this week. It’s very cheap for Virtuozzo-based VPS, which we have rarely featured comparing to OpenVZ-based plans. You also get “free” Plesk 9.x 10 domain license, but I guess you won’t be of “low end box spirit” if you fall to the dark side and use a memory hungry hosting control panel :)

SmokyHosts – $68.86 First Year 128MB Virtuozzo VPS

Via this WHT offer. SmokyHosts is a hosting provider founded in late 2004 — yes almost 5 years ago and which probably means reputation in the cheapo VPS market. They are currently offering 50% recurring offer on their Virtuozzo VPS products. With combination of coupon code NOVSPEC50OFF, prepaid for 12 months + $25 set up fee (yes I know it’s weird to have set up fee for virtual servers), it all comes down to $68.86 for the first year, and $52.56/year recurring.

Since no burstable memory is specified I presume it would be Virtuozzo SLM, which is a lot better than the user beancounter model in all of OpenVZ virtual servers. Their website now appears to be hosted at Liquid Web in Lansing MI.

WebKeepers – $6.95 (with Yearly Payment) Virtuozzo VPS with 128MB

Thanks to Jacob for informing me this. WebKeepers is part of Webk.net hosting companies, specialising in Virtuozzo-powered virtual servers. Their little plan starts at $6.95/month when you prepay 12 months.

According to their about us page, the DC is in San Jose CA. Domain was registered in 1998 and they claim to be in business since 1997. It seems to be in the hosting business for that long according to the wayback machine. Not much review I can find except this one at WebhostingTalk. Still a $7 Virtuozzo container is cheap, if Virtuozzo+Plesk is your thing.

OdishaHosting – $6.95 Virtuozzo VPS

OdishaHosting, a New Jersey based hosting business but having data centers in both Philadelphia PA and Hyderabad India, have some cheap and low end VPS plans, where the virtualization technology is provided by Parallels’ Virtuozzo (which is rare at this price point as it’s a costly commercial product). For $6.95/month, you get:

Servers are using high end Xeon 5420/5520 so they are probably squeezing a lot of VEs onto those beefy boxes. Their data center information on be found on this page with an IP address to do traceroute and download speed test.

Personally I am not a big fan of Virtuozzo. In fact I much prefer OpenVZ unless SLM is used on the Virtuozzo (which apparently is not the case here).

Edit: offer is for US DC rather than India DC.

Let’s see how low can the price go. Via this WHT offer. Buzz Servers has now introduced “The World’s First $3/Month VPS”. Yup you read it right — $3/month. $0.50 to cover the PayPal or credit card gateway fee. $1 to cover the IP address allocated to you, and $1.50 for your memory + disk storage space + data bandwidth. It lets you pay monthly as well, and you get:

All the best with Buzz Servers and I am not surprised that they are using it to probably lure users to upgrade later (although you can do heaps of stuff with the spec above, unless the CPU is badly throttled). The servers are either in Dallas TX or San Jose CA. Too bad only CentOS 5.3 is offered.

WizzVPS – £4.95 Virtuozzo VPS

Via this WHT offer. WizzVPS, a UK hosting company that is part of LayerShift Ltd, has been advertising their Virtuozzo VPS starting from 4.95 quid. Yes — a Virtuozzo low end VPS has not been common, and thanks to the depreciating GBP, we can actually now have one for just £4.95 (or £49.50/year).

If it is using SLM, it would be a very good offer. According to their company page they have been offering Virtuozzo VPS since 2003. Servers are in UK.

FranTech – $5 Virtuozzo VPS

Via this WHT offer. FranTech might not even have its own website, but it has WHMCS and it’s selling VPS :) For $5/month, you get

It uses Virtuozzo 4 so I assume it’s using SLM (which is much better than user bean counter). Severs are in Chicago at Steadfast Networks, hosted on dual quad core boxes. Another special feature is “shared MySQL” so you don’t even need to run your own MySQL server (which can be quite memory hungry sometimes).

Pretty good for Virtuozzo based VPS that comes with PowerPanel. Also you get 20% discount if you prepay for 12 month — that brings the price down to $5.18/month. If you are willing to fork out $25 for setup, plus 12 month prepay, it will be around $3.57/month (+ setup fee). Smokyhosts has been around for 3 years so I guess they can’t be too bad.
