Christopher from Florida VPS emailed me some info about the OpenVZ/KVM VPS hosting services they have just opened. Domain has just been registered a few days ago for “flvps.net” with a WordPress-powered website that does not even have a logo. However they are also part of Pinellas Hosting, which has been around since 2004 and has “22 Combined Years’ experience” between its owners.

At $6.99/month there are actually two different choices — OpenVZ or KVM, where OpenVZ plan has more resource on paper (as obviously it’s easier to <del>oversell</del> <ins>maximize server efficiency</ins> with OpenVZ).

256VPS KVM — Signup Link

256MB memory

25GB storage

100GB/month data transfer

KVM

or

512VPS OpenVZ — Signup Link

512MB memory

50GB storage

200GB/month data transfer

OpenVZ

NOTE: VPS plan says $6.99 for 256MB KVM, but WHMCS says $9.99. Originally I emphasised on the KVM offer for this blog post, and I think it would be fixed soon.

Servers with Hivelocity in Tampa FL, and Chris claimed that “our support department has access to our servers within 5 minutes of our physical address”. For KVMs you can also run various xBSD and Windows (extra license fee required). IRC is not allowed according to AUP/ToS.

Okay. Enough n00b-provider-postings from the last 2 days and let’s get into some real deals. James from QualityServers informed me about their new offer on WHT. The Eliminator™ is available in both US (Tampa FL) or UK (Manchester), and in either OpenVZ or Xen flavor. £4/month (~USD$6.50) will get you this:

600MB memory

40GB storage

1TB/month data transfer on 1Gbps port

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers in either Tampa FL (Hivelocity, test IP: 68.233.240.69, sign up link) or Manchester UK (Burst, test IP: 217.114.62.48, sign up link). IPv6 available only in the UK plans. The plans are also fully managed.

QualityServers have been around for a while (used to be known as QuickVPS.co.uk), a proper UK business with phone number + an office. James mentioned that there are ~50 on each Eliminator plan so the stock would soon be “eliminated”.

Here is another KVM-based provider, with price starting at $7/month for the following VPS.

Direct sign up link here. They got some popular Linux distros as well as Windows Server 2003, although I think it will be next to impossible to run on 128MB of memory. 64MB KVM is also an option at $5/month. “Unmetered bandwidth” is a bit ambiguous, i.e. how fat is the pipe? On this WHT post last month it mentioned 100Mbps uplink, but again I have no idea how saturated the pipe is. Servers in Tampa FL with Hivelocity (test IP: 96.31.74.168).

Domain was registered in 2005, although Way Back Machine have archived it as a dating site back in 2006. WHOIS info leads to a hotel in Pakistan.

James’ thread on WHT described why Quality Servers was launched — together with BuildAVPS targeting two different segments of VPS market.

Updated February 2012: Forever Hosting is unfortunately, not forever. It died somewhere in 2011, and it’s homepage has been showing cPanel login page for a while.

Via this WHT offer. I think Forever Hosting has fixed quite a few confusion on their website and WHMCS since their last offer, but I am still weary this relative new starter from Canada offering way too much for their cheap VPS promotion. Use the same promo code 10OFF to get 10% off recurring discount on their “Budget VPS #1″ — which comes down to $6.30/month (sign up link here).

786MB guaranteed memory (yes, a weird figure)

20GB storage

250GB/month data transfer

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers are now available in Scranton PA, Tampa FL, and UK — although their website remains with HostDime in Orlando FL. From the WHT post you can also request free DirectAdmin license:

If you would like the FREE copy of Directadmin you will need to add it to the order note’s and post the URL to this Ad (note: the WHT link above)!

And free Softaculous license?

Buy any VPS with control panel (cPanel or DirectAdmin) and we will give you a Softaculous license for Free.

It did not state that you need to buy the control panel, but rather buy any VPS with control panel (which DA comes for free) — thus also qualifies the $6.30/month VPS for free Softaculous? Not that I use any control panel so those would be no use for me, but in theory they might need to honour DA + Softaculous from their ad write-up.

Domain registered in August. Adjacent NS, and ikr pointed out this WHT discussion from our previous post — seems to be a hosting business with a stormy start.

5GB storage

100GB/month data transfer

No word on the virtualization technology so I assume it would be OpenVZ based (as HyperVM supports either OpenVZ and Xen, and Xen is more tedious to setup). Their website is hosted on a Solar VPS server in New York. <del>No idea where their VPS are so let’s assume it’s in the same DC.</del> The VPS are at Tampa FL (thanks to Adam’s comment).
