It appears that they have been sold, and was having some transitional issues. Earlier this month Nancy, the new 5ITE account manager who also represents Swift Communications (new owner of 5ITE), contacted me regarding to their new LowEndBox offer. So here it is — use coupon code LEB2012 to get 25% off recurring discount on all their VPS plans. “VZ-1″ would be $5.96/month after the discount. Sign up link here.

Servers in either Nuremberg Germany or Chicago IL. This is actually worse when you compare it with previous offer given by Andrew, although the ordering link still works on that. They are now a part of a bigger company also means that you might be able to get phone support, and VPS might actually moved to migrated to their own facility in the future. Well, recent review wasn’t so positive. Maybe it’s just the migration pain, but hopefully things will become more stable.

From section 9 of their Terms of Services, they would contact abusers if a VPS is slowing down others. They have been around for more than a year now.

If P2P, IRC and public proxies are forbidden according to ToS, what other applications would you use such VPS for (1Gbps unmetered but only 128MB guaranteed memory)?

You can google “Joe’s Datacenter” and read all the reviews, although I think the chance of these guys going to the dead pool would be a lot smaller than any other provider which I have listed over the last week simply due to its size.

On the form it says “Located in Missouri” which I presume would be in Kansas City MO, where many other Missouri-based offers are. Interestingly SSL was half-working in their last month’s offer, but is completely borked this time. Those are E3-1230/1240 nodes with 16GB RAM and RAID10 drives. Check their last two offers for their background + comments/reviews. Here is one provider whom you don’t really get to see on main stream web hosting forums (WHT), but advertise on HackForums. It might be the type you are interested in, but walk with caution (especially since it’s still a pretty new provider).

Erik from FastVPS emailed me their “Boxing Week” promotion, which was also posted on WHT — with lots of replies there already which might be a good sign. By the way, Boxing Week “is a period of six days or more that starts with Boxing Day and ends with New Year’s Eve” so I might be a bit late posting their offer — we’ll see. It’s a 50% off recurring discount when you use promo code boxingweek. It applies to all their OpenVZ VPS plans except for the “FAST $12/YR”. So these are their low-end plans:

FAST $12/YR

128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory

15GB storage

1TB/month data transfer on 100Mbps (upgraded from 500GB/month)

$12/Year — Direct signup link

FAST256MB

256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory

30GB storage

2TB/month data transfer on 100Mbps (upgraded from 1TB/month)

$1.50/month — Direct signup link after discount

FAST512MB

512MB guaranteed/1GB burstable memory

60GB storage

4TB/month data transfer on 100Mbps (upgraded from 2TB/month)

$2.50/month — Direct signup link after discount

FAST1024MB

1GB guaranteed/2GB burstable memory

110GB storage

6TB/month data transfer on 100Mbps (upgraded from 3TB/month)

$6/month — Direct signup link after discount

Payment in either PayPal or AlertPay. Yes I know on the WHT post it says “cut by 50% our price on Semi-Annually and Annually Billing cycle”, however tried on monthly billing and the coupon code still works. Servers in Scranton PA which I presume would be with VolumeDrive (test IP: 199.168.142.37). Personally I think $2.50 for 512MB/1024MB would probably be the best value here. There is no need to commit for the whole year, (almost) everyone can afford to lose $2.50, and 512MB is plenty for many applications. They are using Xeon X3450′s with 16GB memory and 2TB SATA. IRC, Gameservers and Shoutcast are allowed, according to Erik.

Domain itself was registered by “Nicholas Eouani” in Florida in October 2011 which makes it merely 2 months old. However the registrant email address led me to a different person — “Emeric Olenga” of Montreal Canada, who was on WHT previously running a hosting company which he dumped 4 years ago. Anyway, I would still treat this as a new company and the plan is “too good to be true” at the moment. Some brave hearts would definitely give it a try, and we’ll see how things stabilise over the next couple of months.

They have been around since 2003. Do take a look at their Network page and Data Center page, and Abdicar’s explanation here. It seems that they have some local peers for Costa Rica connections, and for all the other out-bound it’s going through their “patent pending” “complex VPN” via Panama to their US end point. So I guess if you are connecting from anywhere else in Central/South America, you’ll still have to route through US. With 1Mbps it means it might have some limited applications though.

Payment in PayPal or credit card. Servers with Hetzner in Germany. Although the ordering page is on secure.layeredlink.com, there is actually no SSL to protect your information. Domain has been registered since 2008, however I can’t seem to find any indication that they have been selling hosting for more than a year. Domain info is also masked out by privacy protection. While that prevents me from digging more on their background, that might also suggest that there might be something to hide. Both NS are also hosted on the same server, which is not a good practise (although commonly done by some of the low end providers here).

I also can’t seem to find anything about LayeredLink on WHT. They do, however, post advertising posts on need-help.org — often associated with nulled scripts and other “dark side of the Internet”. Well, with a username like w4rez, I am not really sure whether you want to rest your sites there. <ins>Update: see Bernd’s rebuttals here</ins>.

Anyway. It’s actually a post that was written 2 weeks ago but was reluctant to post. I’ll be posting some other new provider offers later today.
