That means for their US OpenVZ VPS (Los Angeles, Dallas, New Jersey) it’s now starting from $5.05/month and their UK OpenVZ VPS is now starting from £4.21/month (~USD$6.34). Do note that you need to change the currency to GBP before adding package to the cart, as it has much inflated GBP to USD on their site. You will get the following package

512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory

15GB storage

1000GB/month data transfer

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Thrust::VPS has been adding quite a bit of features lately, including free 1GB backup space and private IP address for unmetered inter-VPS traffic within the same data center.

Servers are still with PacificRack in Los Angeles CA, which is great for Asia/Australia visitors. Low end VPS at this spec is more than capable of running a few websites. Heck. Even LowEndBox.com would fit into this profile (it is using 69MB committed/95MB allocated memory at the moment, less than 1GB space OS included, and ~ 7GB/month of data).

PhotonVPS has their servers in Los Angeles CA according to their network page. PhotonVPS was launched by Profuse Solutions last year, but the company itself that has been around since 1999. Somehow, probably due to their West Coast service, PhotonVPS seems to be very popular in Far East/South East Asia. The fact that they have full Chinese website shows who they have been targeting. I guess the fact that PhotonVPS staffs actually replying in Chinese to Chinese web hosting forums such as hostloc.com also helps.

All their VPS are in Los Angeles CA which would be good for Asia Pacific customers.
Location is either Los Angeles or New York, when you need to specify when you order. I still have one ordered from late last year. Uptime was great… Until a few days ago where there was an extended outage (something like 18 hours) and my VPS got rebooted. Personally I found the VPS got slower and slower due to high IO latency (someone else is thrashing the disk), and best of luck for using all the data transfer allocated, as the network connectivity has been pretty patchy. They don’t put limit on the CPU though so it has been great doing various process/memory intensive tasks I’ve thrown at it.

Less than 6 minutes of downtime guaranteed with an SLA for less than $6/month? Fat chance… (but I hope I am wrong here)

Yeah. Full of place holder text. Looks like the website is far from being finished. Their website is on WebNX in Los Angeles CA, but their network page says “The GH Network – Powered by GNAX”. GNAX is obviously on the other side in Atlanta GA, so I am not sure which one should I believe in. Their NS records also show some interesting stuff. Hmm.

It’s great to be able to run xBSD on the cheap here, and there’s even a choice of running OpenSolaris but not at the cheapest plan. It’s also very cheap for a 10mbps unmetered pipe (if you are into that kind of thingy). Domain was registered back in February this year (i.e. new business). Servers are located in Los Angeles CA.

Interesting setup I’ll say. From owner’s LinkedIn profile he seems to be pretty technical so hopefully it goes well.

No words on the virtualization technology, which I presume to be OpenVZ. IP address of their website is with Peer1, and hosted in UK. You can pay monthly (which I guess $3 will easily be eaten away by processing fees), and there’s 99.9% uptime + 30day money back guarantee…

Yeah. Whatever. Their web pages are full of mistakes (“Shared Linux Hosting Packages” in VPS page? 120MB burstable to 96MB?). Anyone wants to give them a try? :)

Thanks to Jerret for sending in this VPS deal at WHT. The New York NOC currently has a $5/month “Super VPS Plan” that comes with:

Yup. 512MB burstable memory — it’s almost too high-end for me. 1TB of data transfer per month?! I might need to set up a zillion blog sites like this to use that up. The DC is actually not in New York but in Los Angeles. You do have to prepay for 12 months though — but for $60/year it’s still a great value.

Actually. The same deal came up on around 10 days ago, and I signed up on the 21st. I also added 256MB more memory for $27.50/year, and it runs Ubuntu 8.04. The setup was pretty quick — 22 minutes for me after paid by PayPal. It has access to a Core 2 Quad Q9300 (i.e. fast), but it’s sitting there idling at the moment, until I can find something for it to do.

Via this offer at WHT, VPS new start up “VPS R Us” has 20% off coupon for August for their VPS servers, which makes their low end plan “Entry R Us” $6.80/month. It’s an OpenVZ VPS with the following spec:

128MB guaranteed / 256MB burstable

10GB storage

75GB monthly data transfer

2 IP addresses

DC in Infomart, Dallas and One Wilshire Los Angeles. You need to use the code “aug20″ to get the 20% discount. LxAdmin is offered as a free option so I guess it would be HyperVM based. The spec looks good and they are guarateed to have you on a Quad core system — although on OpenVZ seeing all the cores does not mean the provider won’t limit your CPU usage with the
cpulimit
parameter. Here’s also a list coming out from my “dodgy meter”:

Domain registered 2 weeks ago.

Self-signed SSL certificate on the ordering page.

Certainly a quick launch — not sure whether they will also attempt to find a quick exit like the FiveMinuteVPS and VPS Empire.

Their standard plan also fits into the criteria at $5.50/month with 256MB/512MB of memory. Their servers are at KevWorks in Los Angeles. Not sure about the control panel but as their site is hosted on an LxAdmin host, I presume it would be HyperVM based. Their domain was only registered early this month so caveat emptor. You can find out more about the owner by googling around.
