Here is a new offer for the new year from ReThinkVPS, from an email from Sam. According to Sam, they will be ReThink’ing the strategy for 2012, doing things a little bit differently and trying to penetrate the low end VPS market. Well, best of luck. The promo here is not much different from what they have offered 2 months ago though. Use the coupon code 2012 to get 17% off of the same package. So “VPS 1.0″ comes down to $6.60/month after the discount. Signup link.

128MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory

30GB storage

1Gbps unmetered bandwidth

OpenVZ/SolusVM

There’s a bit more info on the same offer posted on WHT. Nodes are located in either Los Angeles CA or Scranton PA. Servers themselves are connected to 1Gbps ports, although what you might eventually receive depends on a lot of other factors. From section 9 of their Terms of Services, they would contact abusers if a VPS is slowing down others. They have been around for more than a year now.

If P2P, IRC and public proxies are forbidden according to ToS, what other applications would you use such VPS for (1Gbps unmetered but only 128MB guaranteed memory)?

They take both PayPal and AlertPay. Sam told me that recently they have moved to a new datacenter which enables them to provide full 1Gb/sec unmetered bandwidth, whereas their previous offer only gives 400GB/month before throttled to 20Mbps. And from their last WHT offer, they seem to be at Los Angeles and Scranton, again! Didn’t they just move to Ubiquity Servers in Atlanta/Phoenix a few months ago, from LA and Scranton? The price also went up a bit, but you do get more storage space.

WHOIS is still masked, and they still have both NS on the same server. IRC, torrent and anonymous proxies are forbidden in the ToS.

Use promo code LEB30 to get 30% off recurring discount on their OpenVZ VPS plans, when you select annual payment. It works on “VPS1″ which already requires annual billing cycle. It comes down to $24.50/year after the discount. You get

128MB memory

10GB storage

500GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Since there’s no burstable memory here, it probably won’t be as useful as other yearly 128MB plans from other providers. You can use either PayPal or Google Checkout. Currently there are two data centers available for the VPS1 plan — QuadraNet in Los Angeles CA with (2) availability, and Continuum in Chicago with (30). YDGH has moved out from Dallas back in July/August. “LEB30″ can also be used on VPS2 which gives you 341MB/512MB memory, 20GB storage and 1000GB/month data for $40.60/year. If annual payment is not your thing, there’s also LEB10 that gives you 10% off on monthly plans.

YouDomainGoesHere have been around since early 2008, and has been on LowEndBox since mid-last year.

Payment in credit card or PayPal. They have recently updated their offers (even the BudgetVM ads showing here are of the wrong pricing), and standardize their servers. Those are dual Opteron 2356 nodes with 32GB RAM and 4x WD RE4 drives in RAID10. On the ordering page you can also choose between 4 different data centers — Chicago IL with Continuum (test IP: 64.79.104.200), Dallas TX with CoreXchange (test IP: 108.60.198.121), Los Angeles CA with HE.net (test IP: 184.105.219.240) and Romania (test IP: 188.215.83.87).

BudgetVM is part of Enzu brand, who sells SAN-backed Xen VPS. Nick seems to be a veteran in VPS hosting by reading some of his older posts on WHT (and how many companies he worked/advertised for). He also founded Virpus with Kenneth according to Virpus’ about page. At least he knows what he is doing :)

We had featured some Chinese providers last month (which caused a bit of stir), but it is great to see another low end provider from China, LoliHosting, taking in suggestions from other readers at LowEndBox and implemented them. They are now on their own dedicated servers, got IPv6 enabled across their plans, and added SSL to their WHMCS. They have also rolled out some new plans.

First of all, they have some new OpenVZ nodes in Los Angeles with BurstNET (test IP: 184.22.28.90). Use promo code LEB also gets you 10% off recurring discount. You get 1x IPv4 and 1x IPv6 on these plans

VZ192

192MB guaranteed/384MB burstable memory

1 vCPU core

15GB storage

$3.11/month (Sign up link)

VZ384

384MB guaranteed/768MB burstable memory

2 vCPU core

30GB storage

600GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps

$4.91/month (Sign up link)

They now also have Xen nodes in Asheville NC with Netriplex (test IP: 69.61.68.130). Those are Xen PV by default but can be updated to Xen HVM on request. Again, 1x IPv4 + 1x IPv6.

XEN192

192MB memory/256MB swap

1 vCPU core

15GB storage

1TB/month data transfer on 1Gbps

$3.95/month (Sign up link)

XEN384

384MB memory/512MB swap

2 vCPU core

30GB storage

2TB/month data transfer on 1Gbps

$6.95/month (Sign up link)

Payment in either PayPal or Alipay. Domain was registered in September 2010 but the service was only launched in June so is still pretty new. Be cautious that George, owner of LoliHosting, is a freshman in college so running a hosting business might not always be his priority. LoliHosting is an (unfortunate) mis-spelling of Lollipop when George was looking for a name for his business (see his comment here), and I think he should take Daniel’s suggestion a bit more seriously :)

Updated February 2012 — Hours after I posted their January 2012 offer, they went offline and replaced with a parked page. DODGY!

n00b providers Monday! Here are some new low end providers that I’ve spotted over the week, but be warned — some of them might be the next SoftLayer (hmm, what’s the probability of this?), but many might fail and fall into the dead pool in the not so distant future. So evaluate, and be careful what you are about to purchase.

Here is the WHT offer. ThriftyVPS claimed to be “a new company of hard working individuals looking to break the hosting mold”. They have both OpenVZ and Xen VPS hosting plans, and both of them have packages starting below $7/month. “Xen powered vps 1″ is $6.25/month that comes with

256MB memory/512MB swap

10GB storage

250GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps

Xen/SolusVM

Offering PayPal, AlertPay and Google Checkout. They also claimed that their Xen VPS is available in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Romania, although their Network Test page did not include Romania’s test IP address. Very new provider indeed — domain has only been registered for 2 months. Free StartSSL certificate for their ordering pages. WHMCS licensedebug shows failed validation, which is a bit of worry.

Jimmy from YardVPS emailed me their latest promo code. YARDVPS will get you 20% off recurring discount on their Tree (Xen PV) and Grass (Xen HVM Windows) plans. In the email Jimmy said that it was only 15% (although I just tested out and it said 20% off at checkout), and it’s also only valid for 72 hours — he emailed me 3 days ago. So it might work and it might not — YMMV. “Tree 1″ would be $6.36/month after the discount. Direct sign up link here.

Payment available in PayPal, AliPay and credit card. Servers in Los Angeles (test IP: 199.71.213.2). YardVPS/PhotonVPS/Psychz Networks — they have certainly been around for a while, although with YardVPS you really get what you have paid for, i.e. most definitely unmanaged. Seems to have quite a few problems before. Just pick any previous offer posts and you’ll see them filled with generally negative comments. I might have been lucky, and had no problem with their Xen VPS when the plans first came out last November (only used for 2 months though).

They claim to have good connectivity to Asia Pacific. That could be a good thing, but could be the bane as well (with lots of customers across the Pacific taking over the bandwidth).
