EaseVPS emailed me a few days ago trying to get their OpenVZ special listed. “Budget S03″ with 1024MB/2048MB memory and unmetered 100Mbps for just $7/month when you use coupon code LEB03… Except on top of that you still have to pay “Gateway Fee” at 9.8% which drives the final price above the threshold. Anyway, I can still list their next cheapest offer — “Budget S02″ for $5.44/month when Gateway Fee is added. You get

256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory

30GB storage

2TB/month data transfer at 100Mbps

2x vCPU cores

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Payments with Liberty Reserve, PayPal or AlertPay. Servers in either Jacksonville FL (VolumeDrive, test IP: 204.124.180.10) or Phoenix AZ (PhoenixNAP, test IP: 50.2.0.34) can be selected on the sign up form. Besides dodgy “Gateway Fee” charged at checkout, domain was only registered 2 weeks ago, running both NS on the same box (website hosted at HostGator), no SSL on the WHMCS and website full of non-working social media links. On the plan page it says “Unmetered” but in ToS under “VPS Network Utilization Limits”, Budget S02 is limited to 2TB/month, which is still quite a lot for a 5 dollar VPS. “Jacob Dominic” (registrant of the domain) also has his WHT account under “Temporarily Suspended”. You can decide by looking at his past offer at WHT, but personally I won’t touch it.

Sorry guys I am flooded with requests at the moment from providers to get their cheap VPS listed (or re-listed). Currently there are 34 emails in my inbox marked as for LowEndBox. I am hoping to post only average 2 offers per day so some requests might miss out. I’ll prioritise that (1) new providers get listed, and (2) offers I think readers would be interested in would be listed here first.

Joseph from ServerDragon wrote me a 800-words email 2 days ago on their special offers. Sorry the business name just gave me a mental image of Bruce Lee wielding a nunchaku storming into the server room… But hey, it’s catchy. Their “O96B” low end OpenVZ plan is $6/3 months with the following spec:

96MB guaranteed/192MB burstable memory

10GB storage

50GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps

OpenVZ/SolusVM

If you pay for the whole year — you will get even more discount at $20/year (oops, I am not supposed to promote yearly plans from new providers). But wait there is more! Use promo code LEBFTW to get 40% off recurring discount if you pay annually — that’s $12/year on the above low end plan. Servers with GoRack in Jacksonville FL (test IP: 68.67.68.165), owned by ServerDragon rather than leased.

As of ServerDragon, it is a registered LLC in Florida (search for “Secure Dragon LLC” in sunbiz), started in late 2010, and are currently a 3-man team. Read more about them here. They have advertised on WHT just a few days ago and seem to be getting some good reviews so far.

Servers with GoRACK in Jacksonville FL (test IP: 68.67.76.1). Pretty cool video on the page showing how fast their network and how usable their desktop is. Looks like a nice offer for remote Windows desktop or hosting your .NET sites. Domain has been registered for 2 years although most reviews are very recent. For example some on Microsoft’s listing.

Only PayPal is offered. Port 25 is blocked and no mail server is allowed. No IRC server connected to other network, and “if we get complaints your server may be terminated”.

Via this WHT deal, QuillHost is offering the following VPS for $5/month.

64MB guaranteed memory

5GB storage

50GB/month data transfer

CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu/Fedora Core/Gentoo

As the control panel provided is HyperVM, I am assuming the virtualization technology used here is OpenVZ. You can also apply some coupon code (see linked WHT page) to get double RAM + space or 20% off lifetime (bringing it down to $4/month). IP of the main web site is at Colo 4 Jax in Jacksonville, FL, and I assume the hosted VPS will also be there as well.

Alright. Now it’s the nitpicking time — why you might not want to consider this host:

There’s no website other than a copy of Client Exec that let you order VPS packages.

According to WHOIS, the domain was created on 2 Oct 2008 — less than a month old.

Contact information in WHOIS is privacy-masked. Most dodgy operations have their contact information masked as well.

From the interaction between the owner and customers on that WHT post, I doubt the owner knows exactly what he is doing.

Good luck if you decided to go with this host! :)
