They are now a part of a bigger company also means that you might be able to get phone support, and VPS might actually moved to migrated to their own facility in the future. Well, recent review wasn’t so positive. Maybe it’s just the migration pain, but hopefully things will become more stable.

Payment in PayPal or credit card. Servers with Hetzner in Germany. Although the ordering page is on secure.layeredlink.com, there is actually no SSL to protect your information. Domain has been registered since 2008, however I can’t seem to find any indication that they have been selling hosting for more than a year. Domain info is also masked out by privacy protection. While that prevents me from digging more on their background, that might also suggest that there might be something to hide. Both NS are also hosted on the same server, which is not a good practise (although commonly done by some of the low end providers here).

I also can’t seem to find anything about LayeredLink on WHT. They do, however, post advertising posts on need-help.org — often associated with nulled scripts and other “dark side of the Internet”. Well, with a username like w4rez, I am not really sure whether you want to rest your sites there. Update: see Bernd’s rebuttals here.

Anyway. It’s actually a post that was written 2 weeks ago but was reluctant to post. I’ll be posting some other new provider offers later today.

Igor from VDS6 emailed me an interesting offer today. It’s FreeBSD — it uses BSD jail rather than hardware virtualization to get FreeBSD 8.2 running on amd64 platform. Ken from UptimeVPS pointed me to their October offer on WHT. For €3/month (~USD$4.02), you can get the following VPS:

On the WHT offer page it states that the service is available in either France with OVH (test IP: 87.98.184.76) or Germany with Hetzner (test IP: 176.9.37.252). However on the sign up page, Scranton in US is also an option. ~USD$4/month for a 1024MB OpenVZ node — that’s indeed quite cheap.

What interested me more, however, is their current special offers. €5/year (~USD$6.70) for a 128MB OpenVZ VPS?! By the time you click through the ordering link it actually shows up as €10/year (~USD$13.40) for 128MB memory, 128MB vswap, 10GB storage and 100GB/month data — which although is still cheap, it’s just comparable with yearly offers from other providers. 96MB got their reviews here, and from their previous offer here, people are sceptical but quite a few people are happy with the performance and service.

We’ll see how things turn out.

urgentVPS just had some big changes. They had deployed a new cleaner looking website with a new logo and a new billing system. They have also migrated from their old Virtuozzo platform to Xen VPS with OnApp. Some changes in pricing too. Yes you do get less moving from Virtuozzo to Xen.
