Also note that provisioning is currently a manual process which can take up to 12 hours wait. According to CompaniesHouse, Castlegem Ltd has been registered since 2008 and they are boasting 1,400+ customers according to Bernhard. Bernhard was from Austria running the Progipark team that has been doing business since the ’80s, and been on the Internet since 1995.

Brandon from Overclocked Host emailed in to notify me about their recently launched Xen VPS offering (which is also posted at WHT here). Their cheapest VPS plan, “VPS-128″ is $6.49/month, and you can use promo code 10vpsopening to get 10% off discount for the first month (i.e. not recurring). Direct signup link.

3GB storage on RAID10

400GB/month data transfer

Xen/SolusVM

Their servers are with HE.net in Fremont CA. According to their About Us page, the business started in July 2011, although they have only been selling VPS since a week ago. Even their shared hosting/reseller hosting uses the free Kloxo. There’s also no SSL on the HostBill pages, which makes me doubt whether “24×7 Support” and “Reliable Servers” written on their home page can be trusted. Finally, we are near the end of 2011 and $6.49/month for a 128MB Xen VPS with a tiny storage space is really nothing to write home about. Buyers beware, and there are better offers elsewhere.

768MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory

20GB storage

1TB/month data transfer

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers in either Fremont CA (HE.net), UK (Burst) or Germany (Hetzner). NordicVPS colo their own servers in US and in UK, but on leased servers in Germany. No IRC, no torrent, etc. They do seem to have more machines coming up in US to allow them scale out economically. We’ll see.

NordicVPS has been around for 2 years, and they are operated from Denmark. Check their past offers for comments and reviews.

“Do BuyVM have any stock?” seems to be one of the most frequently asked questions here. And behold! Pony the Almighty has spoken. Jay wrote in to point me to this announcement on FranTech:

Francisco went to bzImage and said, “Thus says The Pony, the God of Frantech, ‘Let My people go, that they may purchase VPS goodness.” But bzImage said, “Not until Monday April 18th at 12:00pm GMT-7″

New Clients: Please remember to register with accurate account details as the red sea shall not be parted for fraud.

Not too sure whether there will be 10 plagues, and the last one kills bzImage’s first born process (die, init(1) die!) but at least the date/time is clear. Monday. April 18th at lunch time. BuyVM will have stock (yes Francisco — don’t make us disappointed). Including their popular $15/year offer.

15GB storage

500GB/month data transfer

1x IPv4 + lots of IPv6

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Their servers are with Hurricane Electric in Fremont CA, and BuyVM were voted the #1 in 2011 Q1 by the LowEndTalk community. Get your world clock ready if you are not in US :)

Servers with Hurricane Electric’s data center in Fremont CA (test IP: 184.105.172.195). Current website shows 90′s designs, saying “Re-Opening Promotion” — which I presume that they must have somehow closed, and then re-opened the business again. Domain has been registered since February 2010, but WHOIS info is currently masked by privacy guard. However, on another domain owned by the same owner, “pewf.in”, contains possibly his actual profile including birthdate and other info. WHOIS of that domain also points to a local high school.

Anyway. This industry is nothing short of teenage boys making their first entrepreneurial effort. HE’s DC in Fremont also seems to be quite popular. So take your bet :)

The above promo code is available only to Fremont-based services and not their UK and Germany based VPS. GigaTux has been in business since February 2007 (makes them 4 year old this month). HE.com’s Fremont DC seems to be pretty popular because of its connectivity to Asia Pacific. There might be better deals, although currently neither BuyVM nor NeoSurge has any stock there.

/dev/net/tun is available by default, and all VPS support PPTP VPN.

Free DNS hosting

5GB of free off-site backup space

Private IP for internal traffic

Offloaded MySQL for $0.99/month

There are also 256MB instances for $3.50/month and 512MB instances for $5.95/month. BuyVM is part of Frantech that has been around since 2007 (according to domain age).

Via this WHT offer. SolidVPS (with a .ORG domain) is a company (ahem) that claims (on their WHT page) “SolidVPS is becoming a leader in VPS Hosting Solutions, SolidVPS has been bringing Professional, Affordable and Quality managed & unmanged hosting solutions to users all around the globe”. Professional or Quality we do not know as the domain is very new (registered on 28 Oct 2010). Affordable? YES! They currently have a special promotion at the moment — $20/Year with $2 once off set up fee. Here’s the spec:

128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory

15GB storage

500GB/month data transfer

1 IPv4, 16 IPv6 addresses

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Ordering link here. From FAQ page it says the servers are located in either Fremont CA or New York City. Website is hosted on box inside HostDime in Orlando with both NS on the same IP as the website (FAIL!) Domain information masked by WHOIS protection — that’s a double FAIL for a company. You do get to see the pre-masked info on this WHT thread though (linked in an image file).

Since their servers are in Fremont so naturally I compared their plans with the ones from BuyVM.net. Then I found they have pretty much the same spec — except quite a bit more expensive. They could almost make a tidy sum by just reselling BuyVM’s (except they are out of stock at the moment).

Just a note that for 2 cheaper plans these are annual payment only so make sure you know what you are getting into and remember to make regular backups :) The plans and pricing pretty much match what BuyVM has, and now they are in the same location as well. Missed out last time due to procrastination :P It allows full burst to 2 cores of Xeon L5420 and seems to be pretty fast so far. It also comes with 16 IPv6 addresses.

Usually you find items with defects in the bargain bin in your local markets but I do hope the offer here would be top notch as it is from 123Systems (multiple locations, not a one man shop, etc). For $4.95/month you will get the following VPS

128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory

10GB storage

1000GB/month data transfer

OpenVZ/SolusVM

Fully managed

This package should have instant setup and the servers are located in Fremont CA. Same company as 123Systems who will be doing the management. Nice minimalistic design :)

They are with Hurricane Electric in Fremont (one of most popular US DC amongst Far East Asia users, according to what I read). Wow. They also got TUN and PPTP enabled by default to make it easy setting up VPN.

I guess the question is, is FranTech/BuyVM going to do a BlazeVPS? I guess FranTech has been around for a while (and has been a great commenter/contributor to this blog). We did profiled Frantech quite a while ago and only until recently they still did not have a proper website. Looks like things are changing. While Frantech.ca has moved to VMWare hosting with higher price virtual servers, they are also branching out a new division, BuyVM, to offer OpenVZ servers on the low end. For $5.95/month you get

512MB memory

50GB storage

2000GB/month data transfer

OpenVZ/SolusVM

And it is not a BurstNET reseller! The servers are in fact in Fremont CA with HE.net (I’ve got 2 VM there in the same DC and they are great). Good West Coast location for Asia/Australia users.

Thanks to Luke who notified us about their plan changes. Prgmr.com has released their new Xen VPS plans. The disk space and monthly data transfer amount has shrinked for their $5/month 64MB VPS. However for an extra dollar per month, you can get:

128MB memory

3GB storage

20GB/month data transfer

CentOS 5 or Debian 4

Their new server seems to be at Fremont with HE.net (one of my favourite DC). The amount of data per month is a bit limiting although the overage is at only 10 cents/GB. As the motto of Prgmr.com is “We don’t assume you are stupid.”, this is a strictly unmanaged service.

Update: Got an email from Luke @ Prgmr.com, and he said that you can get a 256MB Xen VPS for $6.40/month if you prepay for 12 months, which would fit in our criteria of a “low end box”. And you get 256MB dedicated memory, 6GB storage and 40GB/month data transfer.
