ServerPronto – $5 Promo Dedicated Server

Date/Time: October 23, 2009 @ 11:07 pm

ServerPronto While browsing around I discovered that ServerPronto is selling their old dedicated servers at stupidly low price — $5/month with no setup fee! You get

  • AMD 1800+
  • 256MB DDR RAM
  • 40GB Hard Drive
  • 200GB/month data transfer on 10Mbps port

Also you can’t just buy and expect it to be set up within a fixed time frame — you are just putting on a waiting list. When you click on Order, here’s the message displayed:

Our $5 PROMO Servers are provided on a wait list basis due to limited availability. The servers are not provisioned immediately, and you will be contacted when the server is available. Your credit card will not be charged until the server becomes available.

I suspect you are putting on a waiting list for their about-to-retire boxes. Once their current occupants terminate the package, they continue to sell them at $5/month to the next guy on the waiting list. Therefore getting one is non-deterministic.

Is this deal dead? I click through and am asked to pick a ‘package’ ranging from ‘$32.95′ to ‘$499.95′.

    Tested @9:39PM EST.

    :/

NB: Setup is ‘waived’ only if you opt for quarterly-billing fwict …

What I found that works is do not click on Order from the product page. Instead, go to front page, and click on Order of the $5 dedicate server there – it will bring you to the right page.

I can’t seem to find the option listed anywhere on their site aside from the link with the “Order” buttons which only offer the $32 service..

Thanks – got it and they called to confirm. We’ll see when/if a box shows up for this price.

Dan, if you see this, how long did you wait? And was it worth it?

May have been removed again. Worked fine a few days ago but now when I try, it gives you the Power Plus selection for $110.95/mo. I swear the deal worked for me a few days ago. The wait list was still over three weeks.

Beside this story of “order”, I read many cons about “cancelled” procedure. Do you guys read the TOS before made order?

Just bought one last night. Will be waiting a while, this will (hopefully) be an SCM server and I’ll (maybe) buy a second later on for backups/web server.

Good value too, saves them from landfill!

It can be good but what to do with all this cpu and not much transfert/month?

    =)

http://www.hostmds.com/DedicatedServersInToronto.php can be interesting too for small dedi:
Intel P3 667Mhz/256 MB/20 GB/500 Gb transfert for 8 dolls… (but i have contacted the company and they seem shit to me the way they answered…)

Beware everyone looking at this, they will cancel the promo after a few months and try to force you to upgrade to a more expensive server. Also be aware that they seem to try and get you to fax or postal mail a cancelation to them.

I refused but we’ll see where I end up with it.
