@Daily Botnet Statistics — well. Not quite. Remember the CPU resource is burstable so setting your cpulimit base on how many you intend to run is pretty much defeating the purpose of having a VPS. Also those are supposed to be dual-socket Xeons.

@Del — yup got my VPS rebooted with a new cpulimit, and it is now showing a single core of 556Mhz.

As LowEndAdmin wrote above, his VPS was moved to a Xeon 2.8GHz, with cpulimit being 140MHz. So it seems that NetSpace originally intended to run 20(=2.8GHz/140MHz) VE’s on this server, right?

You are correct.

We had a major problem between the Atom processor and the OpenVZ software. It was an emergency situation and we needed to move to another server asap.

As far as the cpu allocation that, was a mistake by the server tech. Please check it again you should see much better benchmarks now.

Also, the email and hostname problems have all been fixed.

Got an email this morning that “due to hardware issue” they are moving my VPS to another server, and it turns out that:

1. The new server is in Scranton PA (BurstNET, HostNOC)
2. Received an old Xeon 2.8Ghz (cpu family: 15, model: 2) with *merely* 140Mhz on cpulimit.
3. No migration – only a new VPS was created on the new host. I still have to manually migrate all the files.

Needless to say, I won’t renew next month.

Thanks. I have finally got my welcome email by disabling the valid hostname checking on my mail server, and have now logged into the box.

So far so good.

It turns out to be an Atom 330 box with dual core and hyperthreading (so 4X cores in /proc/cpuinfo). Atoms are not famous for its speed I guess so the maximum burstable performance would be less than those with Core2Duo.

HOWEVER, most Atom rackmounted servers that I know use cheap desktop/nettop board, limited to 2GB maximum memory. That somehow limits the number of VE’s per server, which I think is a good thing (compare to my VPSLink 64MB VPS on a Pentium D 2.8GHz but 8GB system memory).

I’ll see how it goes.

@Del — thanks I have fixed the location of the servers. One issue though with Panenthe — I tried to sign up last night, and had my email server rejecting the welcome emails because the server was configured as “localhost.localdomain”. You might want to get it fixed.

These two nodes are not in TX with softlayer they are both in New Jersey in the Interserver datacenter.
The login info on the control panel page has been fixed. An oversight by our webmaster.
We now use Panenthe as our vps control panel. more information can be found at panenthe.com

Hello, The reason for the

“VPS customers, please refer to your welcome email for Hypervm login instructions”

Is we have simply not updated that page recently.
We actually quit selling vps’s for about three months due to the insecurities of HyperVM. We are now offering vps’s once again with a more secure vm control panel.

So to clarify, this offer is real, and no we do not use HyperVM. We currently use the Panenthe vm control panel. for more information you can visit their website http://www.panenthe.com.

I will make sure our webmaster updates our website to reflect these changes as this was obviously overlooked.

Which would indicate something hypervm-y is happening…
