Chicago servers with ColoCrossing. I think they might be gaming on that most people will buy the Professional yet would not use most resource allocated, allowing them a higher degree of overselling. ChicagoVPS is however backed by the dedicated server and colo company, and so far has been quite professional on how they conduct themselves online. Comments from previous offer were mixed — generally good and good to see how Chris and Jeremiah responded to complains.

With a big sale like this I am sort of expecting to see quite a few complains get posted here. Please remember to contact the support first and you might actually get faster resolution that way.

Isn’t cvps a subsidiary of colocrossing?

    May 2, 2011 @ 3:47 pm
    • No.

      May 2, 2011 @ 7:43 pm
    • Subsidiary in a business structure — maybe not. However I think they are tightly affiliated.

      May 2, 2011 @ 10:37 pm
      • LEA,

We are not affiliated with Colocrossing at all, we just have services from them. In no way whatsoever is ChicagoVPS and Colocrossing affiliated as a subsidiary. We are our own LLC.

        Chris

        • Chris, is 1024MB memory burstable ram? Or there is no burstable?

      • @LEA,

I did indeed do work for them in the past, and still do occasionally if its needed. However I have ventured off on my own and have been using my own money and resources to fund ChicagoVPS. The only way we are affiliated is that I am hosted with them.

I will say goodbye ChicagoVPS!! because I place my website to it only 4 days, the vps down, and submite an tickte, 24 hour ago, the vps online, and one man reply to me “Is everything working now?”, F@ck, I want to know why the vps down long time, he not tell me!
    Unfriendly and slowly support!
and I want to know: I order the 512MB use 6.25$ last month, and this month you say 1024MB only 6.5$, can you tell me how can I do?

      • One of the best thing I like about my current provider is being upfront in telling me that there was an issue BEFORE I open a ticket and start yelling about it. I like the way Matt handles his business

I will chime in here as the mob mentality with some of these posts are immature. If you are not happy with the servie I am sure you can get your money back at a

This is the first time I have used a VPS on the net and I only use the space currently for testing.

I have to disagree that the service is unfriendly or not truthful. I am not sure how it is unfriendly when someone asks you if your server is back up? Anytime the service is scheduled to be down I am notified.

I have only submitted 3 or 4 support tickets and have had responses typically within a couple of hours. Two I recall were within 15 minutes.

The only problem I have had was not being able to log into the control panel at times. Once I got blacklisted for some reason and the second time I forgot my password – doh! Probably why I got blacklisted :) Either way the tech (s) where helpful.

The speed of the server I am on has been quite excellent. The staff is good about sending emails when they schedule a maintenance on the server to let you know it is down.

The only time I was down for a substantial amount of time was for a whole weekend. No notice was given other than there is a webpage that shows my server being down. I found out later that many servers in the US were getting pounded by DDoS attacks. This wasn’t only on chicagovps, but on another large brand name host I was with.

The service for the value here is totally acceptable and I have had no issues with anyone being unprofessional or disparaging.

I am grateful for low cost alternatives such as this that allow me to have control over my server environment without having to go through a shared hosting security procedure anytime I want to access the console or beg to have php memory increased from my current host.

Like I said, I have am testing the service now and have been happy thus far. I am probably going to move my family genealogy site from it’s current shared host over to chicagovps. I am probably going to upgrade as well to their professional package.

For this price, chicagovps currently beats my name large brand host provider hands down in both speed and accesabilty. It is what is is and I have been content with the service. If folks are expecting dedicated services then I think you should pay for it.

The only real concern I have is that I hope this service sticks around for a while and not vaporize like many other VPS’ seem to do.

I have recently switched over to the VPS world and specifically ChicagoVPS. I am very happy with the contact I have had with Chris and would recommend their service. I do understand a young company not having the “quality control” you might expect, but go pay four times more at another provider for that instead of complaining about good quality for the price.

Also, I hope your technical skills are better than your writing/language skills.

  9. Hello everyone,

$4.50 Special is going on now! Why?

Our lead Network Engineer graduated college last night, and would like to congratulate him! I have decided to make a special for him, here are the specs:

    Standard https://billing.chicagovps.net/cart.php?a=add&pid=12
    512MB memory
    20GB storage
    1000GB/month data transfer

I have decided to shave off $1/mo for the already great price above. Coupon code: graduation

Well, i’ve been with ChicagoVPS for four months now, won’t lie, have had two or three outages, but by FAR! they have the best service I’ve had for quite some time. I have a lot of VPSs in Atlanta, New York, etc, and have tried several hosts. ChicagoVPS does a great job. Specially Jeremiah Shinkle, their top tech is ALL KINDS OF AWESOME. (and no, I am not a fanboy, just a very pleased customer).

I just ordered a second VPS with you folks to replace a not-so-great host.

    Cheers.

Like so many others, I was also concerned about quality of a $6.50/mo VPS. I have been trying one node out on a limited basis for the last few weeks and have been pleasantly surprised. Because the comments on this web site have been so helpful for me, I need to relate the issue that occurred late last night.

I noticed that the ssh connection to the VPS was jumpy, so I tried pinging the server and found that packets were being lost. In case the problem was my connection, I pinged Yahoo from the VPS and noticed the same issue. I opened a ticket and this is where I was shocked … I received a reply in just a couple minutes! The answer was that ChicagoVPS was experiencing a DDoS attack but that they were aware of the problem and were actively working to mitigate it. And sure enough, this morning all everything is working well again.

No one can guarantee perfect service … true service is about focusing on the customer and aiming for perfect. It’s only been a few weeks and maybe I was lucky, but so far I think these guys are the real deal.

I don’t usually post my experiences but I felt that this was worth taking the time for.

    June 3, 2011 @ 3:52 pm
    • Dan:

My experience has been quick replies as well and it is great to hear that they quickly note the attack going on and were able to relay why you had your specific issue.

ps. It would also be nice if you offered a package with 2 ips. Network solutions requires 2 ips for dns…unless this has changed in the past month or so with them. Yes, I know there are ways around it, but it’s a pain in the arse.

    June 16, 2011 @ 8:49 pm
    • The “proper” way around it — do not put both NS on the same box, and use one of those free DNS providers instead. Network Solutions require that for a reason, as name resolution requires high availability and you pretty much need to have 2 NS on separate network for that.

OR just buy your domain at godaddy, it has free DNS manager
I use that for my domains
